What is Form I-693?

This is one of the forms that must be submitted by people who are applying to be a lawful permanent resident of the United States. The I-693 must be filled out by a doctor who is authorized to do this type of examination. Dr. Podolskiy regularly performs these exams and is well versed in the rules regarding Form I-693. The primary purpose of this examination is to verify that the person applying for a green card cannot be excluded on public health grounds. 

What is Included in The I-693 Exam? 

The doctor will discuss your medical history with you, including your vaccination history. It is always helpful to have a list of previous vaccinations if at all possible. If you are missing any vaccinations from the following list, you'll receive them at this time. The required vaccinations for green card applicants include Hepatitis A and B, Influenza and Influenza type B, Measles, Mumps, Meningococcal, Pertussis, Pneumococcal, Polio, Rotavirus, Rubella, Tetanus, and Varicella. 

You will then have a physical exam, which generally covers your entire body. A chest x-ray, which checks for tuberculosis, usually follows the physical exam. At this exam, you will also have blood samples drawn for testing purposes. The doctor is only looking for serious problems that would prevent immigration, and there is no reason to worry about minor issues like a racing heartbeat being an impediment to receiving your green card. 

When Will You Receive The Completed I-693? 

Once the exam is over, the doctor will give you a completed Form I-693 in a sealed envelope. This may happen immediately, or it may take several days for the doctor to complete the form. This envelope is then given directly to USCIS as is. You will also be able to get a copy of the examination results for your own personal records.
